Therapy Assistant (also called Allied Health Assistant)
Gabriela joined our team in 2020 as a Therapy Assistant with more than 20 years’ experience working with children from 4 months through to 18 years of age as an Early Childhood Educator, drama and Spanish teacher. Gabriela thrives on applying the knowledge from her experience as an Allied Health Assistant and Early Childhood Educator to maximise children’s physical development, well-being and social skills through play while recognising the importance of a trauma-informed approach to care. She emphasises the importance of finding what motivates each individual child and how best to connect with them to engage cooperation in Physiotherapy exercises and Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology strategies using age-appropriate play and activities.
Gabriela has a Diploma of Early Childhood Education, a Graduate Certificate in Education (trauma-aware education) and Certificates in infant & child First Aid and Anaphylaxis, as well as Key Word Sign, bike riding for children with disabilities, and understanding the origin and function of behaviour. In 2025, she will be commencing her Bachelors in Early Childhood Education. She is an Australian Citizen who is fluent in English and Spanish, and also speaks basic Italian and Portuguese.
Gabriela is the mother of 3 children and understands how to interpret behaviours and engage cooperation in children of all ages. She also appreciates the challenges of integrating therapy into busy daily routines.
Gabriela works under the supervision of our Physiotherapists and the child's Allied Health team to help them achieve their therapy goals.
